Are your cakes made from scratch?

Yes absolutely 100%. I'm a qualified chef and all of our products are made with quality and flavour in mind. Every piece of cake, layer of buttercream and all fillings are made from scratch... you won’t find any packet mix cake in this kitchen. We source the best ingredients such as coverture Belgium Callebaut chocolate and free range eggs. This is reflected in our pricing. Quality ingredients are not cheap and baking from scratch takes a lot longer than packet mix.

When should I order?

Our online ordering system requires fourteen (14) days notice. We are not taking online orders for Mondays or Tuesdays. If you are after something for these days please inquire. However for custom orders we recommend getting in as early as possible, especially for big events and weddings as we may book out. Your order and date is not confirmed until payment of a 25% retainer. We understand that sometimes circumstances may mean you require something urgently. Please email us and we will do our best to help you out.

Can I taste your cake before ordering?

Of course! We offer cake tasting boxes that can be ordered online here: Cake tasting box – Bakes by Steph

Can you get a custom cake topper for my cake?

We recommend you let us organise a cake topper for your cake if this is something you would like. For only a few dollars more than ordering yourself, we can work with you and you will get a custom product that fits the cake properly in size and matches the style. A cake topper is an important aspect in the decoration of the cake so it does impact the end product and will save you ending up with an oversized mismatching end product.

Can I add decorations to a plain cake you make?

Unfortunately we do not provide undecorated cakes for you to finish (eg. with your own flowers) as it is not only a food safety issue, but it is also the Bakes by Steph brand that is represented and we wish to provide you with an amazing fully finished product that best represents our talent and style. We also have amazing local suppliers of flowers and cake toppers who we love to support and work closely with for your cake.

Can you copy this cake I found a photo of?

When you inquire about our services we recommend you send any inspiration images you may have. Due to the nature of the creative and cake decorating processes we do not copy or replicate another artists' work. You are welcome to provide any inspiration photos or mood boards. Please consider booking a custom cake as similar to commissioning an artwork, there is an element of trust for your cake designer. If we don't fit your desired aesthetic or style we may recommend someone else who may be able to help you instead. We will always do our best to communicate with you, and create a cake you will love.

Do you deliver?

Online order delivery is $15 within Echuca and Moama. If you prefer to pick up your order we will organise that with you when booking. For deliveries in other surrounding areas there will be a delivery charge depending on distance. Delivery for weddings and large events that require on site set up will be quoted individually. Pick up is not available for tiered cakes.

Can you add a note to my delivery as a gift?

If your order is a gift for someone, leave a note at checkout with a quick personalised message and we will add it to your order.

How do I transport my cake?

If you are picking up your order please ensure you place it in the boot or on the passenger side floor so that it is flat and steady. Please ensure car is nice and cold before pick up. Do not transfer cakes in a warm car. For products that need to be refrigerated, get them in the fridge asap. We are not responsible for any damages that occur after you pick up. You will be given a cake care card as well.

How do I cut my cake?

All inedible decorations ie. cake topper, fresh and dried flowers and foliage must be removed before cutting your cake. Extra tall cakes may have a support board inside the cake. Cut the top half of your cake first, remove the board and then cut the bottom half. If your cake is supported with dowels, remove them when cutting. We recommend you slice your cake vertically about 1" thick. Lay that down and cut into rectangles to serve.

How to store my buttercream cake?
